The self proclaimed “Special One” is having a dreadful season at Real Madrid with a massive 15 points gap behind the league leaders Barcelona. After getting into a poor relationship with the Club president Florentino Perez and several star players, the speculation about Mourinho’s exit intensifies. Several Bernabeu faithful have turned against him. This would have made Mourinho miss his former London club where people love him and still want him back. Lately, the reports of Mourinho’s return to Chelsea has become stronger and hence we can strongly feel that Mourinho’s Stamford Bridge return is on the horizon.
So, what would Jose Mourinho’s return to Stamford Bridge imply? One would say EPL would be a three horse race again. One would also talk about the power shift from Manchester to London. But the first thing that would come into people’s mind is – ” Sir Alex Ferguson vs Jose Mourinho”. Let us take a look at why this rivalry is so special.
2004-05 season:
Jose Mourinho introduced himself with an outrageous celebration at Old Trafford down the touchline when Francisco Costinha equalized for FC Porto in the dying minutes of the game. Chelsea made no hesitation to sign Jose Mourinho for the 2004-05 season right after his Champions League triumph with FC Porto.
Mourinho again added to Sir Alex’s frustration by inflicting a defeat to Manchester United on the opening day of the season.Mourinho snatched the Carling Cup from right under Sir Alex Ferguson’s nose by defeating his side at Old Trafford in the Semi finals and then defeating Liverpool in the final at Wembley. Mourinho stamped his authority over the EPL by setting a record league total of 95 points and again humiliating United by 3-1 at Old trafford, after receiving the Guard of Honour from the United players. Thus, the season 2004-05 was dominated by Chelsea.
2005-06 season:
The 2005-06 season was another successful year for Jose Mourinho. But his clash against Sir Alex Ferguson at Old trafford resulted in United’s victory after Darren Fletcher’s looping header won it for the Red Devils. That was Sir Alex’s first win over Mourinho. But still, Mourinho’s team snatched yet another EPL trophy by humiliating United by 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, leaving Sir Alex even more angry.
2006-07 season:
Sir Alex Ferguson reacted right from the beginning of the 2006-07 Season. Manchester United drew Chelsea at Old trafford after Ricardo Carvalho scored in the second half of the match. United’s splendid performance throughout the season made them the worthy winners of EPL 2006-07. A terrific comeback at Goodison Park sealed the fate of that season in United’s way. Chelsea played United on May 9, 2007 with the Red Devils getting the Guard of Honour at Stamford Bridge, which made Sir Alex the happiest person. That was Jose Mourinho’s last season with Chelsea and he signed for Inter Milan after that.
Jose Mourinho’s arrival to Stamford Bridge next season would make the Chelsea fans really happy. Mourinho’s return to Chelsea would surely re-ignite the EPL and the title race would become more interesting than before with the likes of heavy spending Manchester City fiercely competing for the title too.
