Juan Mata has inadvertently revealed where friend David De Gea will end up this summer, after giving an interview to Spanish paper Marca.
Mata and De Gea have a very public friendship, with Manchester United fans following it at every step via social media but if Mata is to be believed, the two could be separated this summer.
Whilst he has chosen to say nothing, De Gea’s future remains in limbo with Real Madrid keen to take the 24-year-old back to Spain. Widely regarded as the best goalkeeper in the world, United find themselves in the unenviable position of either having to sell the goalkeeper for less than he is worth or letting him go for free next summer when his contract expires.
Either way, Mata believes that his pal is off to Spain. When asked about De Gea’s future, his cryptic answer revealed way more than he may have thought it did:
“Lots of people ask me about De Gea. He’s a friend and I want him to be happy.
“He’s currently one of the best goalkeepers in the world. From a selfish point of view, I would want to have him in my team.”
With radio silence from the goalkeeper, most fans have accepted that he is likely to return to his home country but Mata has now clarified the situation that little bit more.
Tissues at the ready then!
