Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata has insisted that he intends to stay with the club and has no plans to return to La Liga in the near future, as per reports on El Pais. Mata made a switch to the Premier League when he signed for Chelsea back in 2011 and has hailed the English top flight for its competitiveness.
The Spanish national ran out of favour at Stamford Bridge during Mourinho’s second spell with the club. Mata struggled to earn a place in Mourinho’s starting line up which frustrated the former Valencia player. David Moyes took advantage of the situation and brought him to Old Trafford during his reign at the club.
The 27-year-old arrived in Manchester for £37million in January 2014 and despite making a slow start to his United career, he is now showing the kind of form that twice made him player of the year at former club Chelsea.
Now he’s into his fifth season in English football. He has made a lively start to the new campaign by netting 4 goals and adding 4 assists for the Red Devils. Mata was full of praise for the league's atmosphere and respect towards players.
"Right now I don't even think about it. I miss family, my friends, but for I'm very happy in Manchester," Mata said.
"I have the feeling that I have just arrived here and I still have many things to do.”
"Playing in England is a very positive experience.”
“I advise every player to spend at least one year in the Premier League, because in terms of fans, the league, the structure, what football represents, it’s fantastic.”
"There is a special respect towards the player. It is incredible. You are playing a top-level team and even when you lose the fans still support you, looking forward to the next match.”
"That gives you more eager to share the successes with them. It is different from Spain. Here they understand football in a very special way."
London is fantastic while Manchester is more laid back: Mata
The Spain international showed his affection for the Northern Quarter and the defunct wheel in Piccadilly Gardens through his Instagram account and blog posts. Mata has also given his thoughts on London and Manchester, the two cities he has lived in since arriving from Spain.
"The best thing about living in Manchester is that it has a very ‘British’ atmosphere, very English," Mata said in an interview.
"And then there is the music – a lot of really big groups have come out of Manchester. As for the architecture, it’s a very English city.”
"There are galleries, museums, good restaurants - The only down side is the weather.”
"I adapted really well because I had already lived in London. Now I’ve spent five years in England and it’s gone really quickly."
“London is fantastic – it’s like various cities in one but it moves so quickly - at a thousand miles an hour; it’s a bit crazy. Manchester is more laid back, it’s a normal city."
