The transfer of Juan Mata comes as a surprise and shock to the entire football world. Lets analyze this transfer from the view of all the parties involved.
Juan Mata
Regarded as one the best no. 10 of the EPL it came as a surprise when Mata did not get to play games let alone starting them. Though he had started at Chelsea on the left wing he was played on the no. 10 position by Roberto Di Matteo.
He flourished in that position and soon became an integral part of the club. This transfer comes as a second chance for him to re-establish himself on the world stage.
Being the club’s record sighing he can expect to start in almost all matches. Is he a traitor? I don’t think so. Just read the open letter he wrote to his Chelsea fans, and you will accept the fact that the only factor that motivated the transfer was the lack of his playing time. I think he will be an important part of the team and will be instrumental in bringing success to the club.
Chelsea
Some will compare this situation to Real Madrid’s sale of Mesut Ozil. Both were important play-makers for the last 2 season but found themselves on the bench for most of the season. Will Chelsea miss him?
Of course. Oscar remains the only true no. 10 in the squad and if he gets injured the entire formation will have to be changed as the team has been built around Oscar. Jose Mourinho says he sold Mata for humanity reasons.
But you know Jose. He can be manipulative at times. The only reason he still has the support of the crowd is simply because he is Jose Mourinho-Stamford Bridge’s favorite child. Will the signing of Salah compensate for the loss of Mata? Only time will tell.
One thing is sure-Mata will always have the respect of the Chelsea fans for his 2 years at the club. You can expect a standing ovation for him when he returns to play at Stamford Bridge next season.
Manchester United
The biggest gainers in this entire transfer, David Moyes has at last able to sign a world class player. His team lacked that creative edge which Mata can provide.
Rooney has done most of the creative work by dropping behind the striker but now he is free to pursue his goal scoring ambitions. Mata can create goals as well as score them.
A team player; he is someone who can make the entire team function properly. Its now up to David Moyes to harness the maximum out of him and turn around United’s season. With Mata on their side you can expect Rooney and Van Persie to compete with the partnership of Suarez and Sturridge.
As a football fan, I am happy. Why? Simply because I can see Juan Mata play regularly again. The magic, his creativity oh what a sight! His first touch of the ball is outstanding. He is humble yet confident, and he is a team player. He is someone who makes Football what it really is- The Beautiful game and I feel everyone, even some Chelsea fans will be happy to see him play albeit for a rival.
