Julian Draxler has come out and openly confirmed that he wants to leave Wolfsburg this summer. The German International was talking to BILD when he revealed his intentions to leave the club.
The Germany international has hinted that Wolfsburg received a bid for him from a ‘big club’ and they rejected it. This comes amid speculations of a bid launched for the German by Premier League side, Arsenal.
While speaking to BILD, Draxler said “Before one goes public, they should also have a word with myself.” The midfielder was referring to the quotes of Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking, who has insisted that Draxler would not be leaving and informed German football magazine, Kicker: "We won't comment on every rumour, but we explicitly decreed that Julian will stay with us."
Draxler went on to reveal that he had made his decision to leave the club before the EURO’s began. He said “For me it is so that I have expressed myself clearly after the Euros, with Dieter Hecking, that I want to leave Wolfsburg. The coach knows for more than three weeks. Two days after the semi-final at the European Championships I told him how I see the whole situation and what I want – which is to leave the club.”
Draxler is fuming that Wolfsburg are not allowing him to leave the club despite having verbally agreed that he could leave if a ‘big club’ came calling. He has revealed that this verbal agreement was reached with the club when he was signing for them last summer.
Confirming the verbal agreement, he said “I was verbally assured with my transfer in August 2015 that I can leave the club when given opportunities. Both from Hecking, as well as Allofs.
“It was always clear between all parties that I would like to go to a top international club if the opportunity arises. It was discussed that we speak rationally with one another, if other clubs show interest.”
Draxler was signed by Wolfsburg from German rivals, Schalke 04 last summer for a fee believed to be around €34 million. The German has been a long time target for Arsenal and has been linked with the Gunners in every transfer window for the past 3-4 years.
Arsene Wenger is said to be a fan on Draxler and is interested in signing the German star this summer. Arsenal have been on the lookout for a player who can play as a striker and in the midfield and it looks like Wenger’s search is coming to an end.
Meanwhile, Juventus are also said to be keeping an eye on the developments around Draxler as they are looking out for a replacement for Paul Pogba who’s heading to Manchester United.
