Julio Cesar disinterest baffles QPR boss Redknapp

Queens Park Rangers v Everton - Premier League

Julio Cesar might stay at QPR

QPR boss Harry Redknapp is still scratching his head as to why goalkeeper Julio Cesar is still at the club following QPR’s relegation to the Championship, reports Soccerway.

A number of QPR’s key players like Park Ji Sung, Loic Remy and Christopher Samba have left the club in search of better playing opportunities. Remy and Park have joined clubs Newcastle United and PSV Eindhoven, respectively, while Samba has joined Russian side FC Dynamo Moscow permanently.

Julio Cesar and midfielder Joey Barton are the big names who remain with QPR. Both the players have been linked with moves away from the club with the transfer window shutting on Monday.

Cesar, who has not featured in a competitive game this season, has attracted interest from Arsenal and Florentina.

“I can’t believe that one of the big clubs in the world hasn’t come in for Cesar,” said Redknapp.

“He’s a world-class goalkeeper.” he added.

Joey Barton, who spent last season on loan at French club Marseille, confessed on Thursday, that he had turned down an offer to join newly promoted Crystal Palace, with Everton are also expressing interest in the 30-year-old.

The midfielder, who has featured in all four of QPR’s championship games, was praised for his work ethic by manager Harry Redknapp.

He added: “Joey is here, playing well, and he’s been exemplary, his behaviour and everything else, not a minute’s problem.”

“I’ve been delighted with Joey. It’s the first time I’ve worked with him and he couldn’t have done more.”

“He’s been great on the training ground, great on the pitch on Saturdays and great off the pitch.” said the QPR manager.
