Liverpool have been linked with a host of Bundesliga stars since Jurgen Klopp's arrival and the latest rumours doing the rounds are of Bayern Munich's Mario Gotze joining the Merseyside club. Gotze has been unsettled under Pep Guardiola and could link up with his ex-manager from Borussia Dortmund.
The club was further boosted by recent financial showings as it made a revenue of £297.9 million in the year 2014-15, continuing the financial recovery under their American owners, the Fenway Sports Group.
The club also announced a profit before tax of £60 million but this was due to the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona. Liverpool's chief executive Ian Ayre was delighted with the results and stated that the new increased stadium capacity and the television deal will lead to extra funds for Jurgen Klopp to rebuild the team.
“There has never been a situation where we haven’t backed the manager and there will be no difference with Jürgen as we move forward towards the summer,
“We are very fortunate in that everything we generate goes back into the team and you cannot spend any more than you generate and then some. We have seen in these results the owners have injected further cash into the business for our stadium and written off some money. The support is there as it has always been.”
Klopp also has set his sights on the Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell and Udinese's Piotr Zielinski. Liverpool would also be freeing up some funds if they can sell off a few players who don't fit Klopp's agenda.
Christian Benteke, Mario Balotelli and Joe Allen could be the biggest casualties while the likes of Jose Enrique, Kolo Toure and Joao Teixeira could also be cut from the side.Jurgen Klopp has already dipped his hands in the transfer market for Liverpool when the club signed Joel Matip from Schalke and Marko Grujic from Red Star Belgrade in the January window.
Excited about the Liverpool challenge
The Liverpool manager had to deal with a defeat in the final of the Carling Cup where his side lost out to Manchester City on penalties. His side face Manchester City next in the Premier League and the German was adamant that he is the man for Liverpool.
“I am 100% excited about the challenge,” he said. “It gets better and better by the way. Why? Because I know more. I am not the cleverest but I love the challenge. When I was younger I thought I had no chance to be part of professional football so I wanted to study medicine. I wanted to help people. I like to change things and help if it’s possible. It’s a hard way to go. I don’t know what other names FSG would have taken but I think I am a really perfect solution. I like this. I am patient enough to work for the moment and then we can change things."
Klopp also stated that with a bit of luck on their side, they could have won the final against City.
“On Sunday with a bit of luck we could have won the game. If Divock Origi makes that header it’s 2-1 and then you are asking a different question but it’s the same situation, just without a bit of silverware in our hands."
Guardiola and Klopp to continue rivalry
Anther obstacle standing in the way of Liverpool would be the arrival of Pep Guardiola to Manchester City. The Spaniard would join a club not only with better players and their financial muscle could bring about a lot of world-class players into their side. Klopp also stated that one team could never dominate the Premier League anymore.
“It’s not possible in this world of football to be successful in England five or six years in a row. Nobody can win the league five or six years in a row because the financial potential of all the teams is too big. But always to be a part of this and to be a challenger is possible. That’s what we have to be in the future. To do that we have to make decisions.
“I am only interested in Liverpool FC. If I had gone to another club would it have been easier? They would have had other problems. Next season Pep Guardiola will find that it’s more rainy in Manchester than it is here or in Munich. Every day isn’t easy. And they will be big favourites so that’s another problem. We have problems but we are in a good way to solve them. How long we need for this? Time is very important. All we can change to become a good side we will do.”
