Jurgen Klopp has finally confirmed that he will take a sabbatical from coaching for a while. The 47-year-old recently resigned as the manager of Borussia Dortmund and his last match in charge was Dortmund’s loss in the final of the DFB Pokal to Wolfsburg.
After his resignation, there were several reports of Klopp being approached by clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool, Real Madrid & Fenerbahce, but the German has put a full stop to all the speculation now.
Klopp is keen on restarting his career with fresh challenges and hence has decided to take a year off to prepare himself for the same. Pep Guardiola, another top coach, also took a similar sabbatical from his coaching career few years back before resuming at Bayern Munich.
Klopp addressed his fans by saying, “After seven intensive and emotional years of ‘true love’ I think it makes sense to take time to take stock of the countless memories before me and my fellow coaching team embrace a new challenge, fresh and highly motivated.”
Klopp had earlier denied reports him about taking a sabbatical, but he has changed his mind now. He consulted his advisor, Marc Kosicke, before taking his decision.
Hee said, “I feel below average. I am having to work very hard to keep my emotions in check. Each time I hug a player, the tears are likely to roll because I know this is the last time I will hug that person.”
“I am very grateful for the seven years I’ve had here. I have to deal with it one step at a time and I will do that even more when the cameras are not on me all the time.”
During his time at the German club, Klopp won several trophies. He won Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal twice and also took his team to the Champions League final in 2013. However, this year, things went quite wrong for him and his club, and they had to struggle a lot to finish seventh, qualifying for the Europa League qualifiers.
