Serie A champions Juventus have not given up their pursuit of Manchester United’s Patrice Evra, despite the defender signing a one year contract extension at Old Trafford, according to Di Marzio. While, Tuttosport report the Man United stalwart has agreed personal terms with the Champions League giants.
The 33-year-old was widely expected to leave the Red Devils this summer, along with a number of ageing players, including Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, with the announcement of his new deal coming as a shock to the majority of fans.
However, despite agreeing to stay with the club for a tenth season, the France international’s future has been plunged into further uncertainty following the signing of England youngster Luke Shaw.
The 18-year-old will be vying for a starting berth at United next season and may even be installed as the first choice left-back in the squad given the vast sum of money paid to acquire his services from Southampton.
Evra may not be willing to play second fiddle to the teenager and it now appears that he may not have a future in the first team with his latest contract renewal perhaps a sign that United are simply keen not to allow him to leave the club on a free this summer.
As such, reports have emerged that Juventus have agreed a deal with the full-back that is worth a lucrative £3.5 million per season, but will now have to negotiate a transfer fee with United before a transfer can be completed.
With new manager Louis van Gaal set to take the reins at the Theatre of Dreams after the conclusion of Netherlands’ World Cup campaign, Evra’s future is likely to lie with the Dutchman and if he believes the defender still has something to offer.
