Three years ago Kaka was among the greatest players in the world and for a brief time was also the most expensive player in world football history.
Coming off a great run at AC Milan, where he won the Champions League and was voted World and European Player of the Year in 2007, Kaka’s move to Real Madrid was met with much fanfare and heavy expectations.
Fast forward to today the 30-year-old Kaka faces difficult task to win back a place at Real Madrid after being apparently overlooked by the coach Jose Mourinho.
Kaka’s move to Madrid was already overshadowed by the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo. A series of injuries, including ankle surgery after playing for Brazil at the 2010 World Cup, added to his difficulties at the club.
Kaka was left out of the Spanish champions’ squad for their Super Cup victory over Barcelona and has yet to appear in the team in La Liga this season.
AC Milan tried to convince RMA to loan Kaka back to them, but Spaniards’ were only prepared to make a sale.
The Brazilian midfielder still believes in himself to bring back the form which made him the World’s Best Player in 2007.
“I arrive before the other players, do separate training, practice with the squad. The only way I’m going to get another chance is training more than the others and that’s what I’ve been doing. Little by little the fans lost their hopes but I haven’t lost hope yet and I believe I can still do a lot of good things at this club.” the player told TV Globo in an interview at Real Madrid’s training complex on sunday.
He says he does not train with the idea of being a part of the starting XI, rather just to be a part of the bench.
“Today, I don’t want to be a first team player, just to be in the squad (for matches),” he said.
It’s clear that Kaka believes that he can still be a valuable contributor at the Bernabeau. Maybe he’s got one last chance with this inclusion in the Champions League squad and the left La Liga matches this season. He’ll be eager to take it, whether that be to remain in Madrid or attract interest from elsewhere.
The World still needs to see Kaka playing football. Good Luck to him!
