Real Madrid striker and French international, Karim Benzema, has expressed his desire to win the coveted Ballon d’Or. Benzema is ready to play as the main striker for Real Madrid as Gonzalo Higuain departed for Napoli this transfer window.
“It’s (Ballon d’Or) at the back of my mind. I work every day with the aim of winning it,” he told Adidas. “Real Madrid is the best club. I came here to work hard and I’m so happy to be here. The best thing is that I’ve dreamt of being a footballer since I was a boy and now I am one and I am living my dream.”
When asked about who is the best player in the world, he refused to give an answer.
Even though the Ballon d’Or has been dominated by Messi and Ronaldo, Benzema feels that there is still hope that he could strive towards it.
Real start their La Liga campaign against Betis on August 19, and Benzema is confident enough to score enough goals to convince the fans that he can steer Madrid to a La Liga victory.
He won the French player of the year two times in 2011 and 2012 and also holds the record for the fastest goal in an El Clasico.
He has won one La Liga, one Super Cup and one Copa del Rey with Real Madrid and is hungry for more.
