Khedira stays put; Agrees contract extension

Reports had linked Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira with a move for English giants Arsenal and Manchester United. Khedira, currently sidelined till the end of the season with a knee injury has been offered a new three year deal by the Bernabeu outfit to stifle interst from the English Clubs.

The tenacious midfielder, 26 faces a race against time to be fit for next summer’s premiere showpiece to be held in Brazil. Khedira whose contract expired in 2015 has accepted the extension keeping him at the club till 2018 and will pocket a reported £3m per season.

Manchester United had tried and failed in the summer to land the German, and Moyes was planning a winter swoop for his services before the German suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury, while playing for Germany against Italy in November.

Carlo Anceloti was unwilling to let Khedira leave the Santiago Bernabeau; after having lost Mesut Ozil to Arsenal in a £42.4m swoop on the final day of the summer transfer window. This extension will effectively end any hopes that Arsenal, Chelsea and United had of landing the German star.
