29 year old Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has extended his contract at German Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04 until summer 2015, ending weeks of speculation about his future either with the royal blues or with another European club side.Huntelaar, who has played for SC Heerenveen, Ajax Amsterdam, Real Madrid and AC Milan before coming to Schalke, had been linked to English Premier League sides FC Arsenal and FC Liverpool besides Serie A giants Internazionale Milan. But in the end he decided it was better to stay with the Ruhr valley club.
“I’ve been thinking long and carefully about this decision,” Huntelaar told the club’s official website. “I feel good here and this is a positive sign that I believe in what we are doing here and I feel we can achieve a lot in the second half of the season.”
Schalke 04 Director of Sports Horst Heldt said, “Together with Klaas-Jan, we had originally targeted, only to enter the decisive phase of the talks next month. So I am very pleased that Klaas-Jan now sets a clear signal to the entire club for the second half of the season.”
After weeks of poor results in the Bundesliga which led to coach Huub Stevens being fired last weekend, this is good news for Schalke just ahead of christmas.
