Many people thought Dutch coach Louis Van Gaal had gone bonkers when he subbed off captain Robin van Persie to bring on Klaas-Jan Huntelaar when they were chasing the game against Mexico. Huntelaar came on in the 76th minute for Van Persie when the Oranje were down 1-0.

But just before the substitution, Huntelaar was seen racing to the dressing room before coming back out on to the pitch and eventually replacing Van Persie.

Wesley Sneijder brought things level in the 88th minute, Huntelaar scored the decisive penalty kick in the 94th minute to beat Mexico 2-1 and advance to the quarter-finals.

After the game, a German reporter asked the Schalke striker why he ran to the dressing room before the substitution and what he did there.

Huntelaar responded: “I needed to take a leak.”

While they both laughed, Huntelaar went on to explain how he drank plenty of fluids while sitting on the bench during the game – understandable as the game was played in almost 39 degrees Celsius.

When the reporter asked him whether the bathroom break helped him convert the penalty, he smiled and said: “Well, the pressure was gone.”

We’re with you on this one, Hunter!
