Uncertainty and inconsistency seems to follow Arsenal like a shadowy curse. Laurent Koscielny has been added to the club’s list of players threatening to leave the club if Arsenal failed to procure stellar players in the transfer market.
His plea for ambition is the reverberation of the comments made by former captain, Robin van Persie, who left the Emirates for Manchester United last summer.
The Dutch player cited the club’s insipid drive to win major trophies as a key reason behind his decision to quit.
Koscielny, who has established himself as Arsene Wenger’s first-choice centre-half, has four years left on his contract. In spite of playing an integral role in his club’s brilliant end to last season, which saw them secure a Champions League place ahead of rivals Tottenham Hotspur, the Frenchman raised doubts about his future.
“I want to lift trophies and to have a winning record. I hope the club will give me the means. If this weren’t the case, I’d look elsewhere. I want to win titles and I hope the club has the means,” he was quoted in the Daily Mail.
The defender, who is said to be worth £15million, is said to be a target for new Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola.
The same goes for the right-back Bacary Sagna, who after questioning Arsenal’s ambition has admitted that he might jump ship to Paris Saint-Germain, if he decides not to extend his Arsenal contract.
