Cristiano Ronaldo will miss Portugal’s friendly with Brazil in Boston on Tuesday (10th September) and is also a doubt for Real Madrid’s match at Villareal on Saturday, say ESPN.
Ronaldo was not fully fit for Portugal during Friday’s World Cup qualifier against Northern Ireland but the Madrid man had enough in him to score a hat-trick and turn a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 win for Paulo Bento’s side to keep them two points ahead of Russia at the top of Group F.
“He had a week of intense treatment, he made an enormous sacrifice and now he needs to rest,” said Portugal team doctor Henrique Jones, on FIFA’s official website.
Madrid based newspaper AS claimed that Ronaldo was already back in Madrid on Monday and had started his recovery work with Real Madrid’s medical team. The newspaper reports that the striker is suffering with tendonitis in a thigh muscle injury he has been managing for a few weeks.
