Real Madrid has come under criticism from La Liga president over the new TV rights deal

Real Madrid have come under slithering criticism from La Liga president, Javier Tebas as the Blancos were the only club to block the new TV rights deal that has come into force this season. This agreement is a work of many years by the Spanish League as one of the major talking point of the deal was of the sale of international rights with Madrid having previously sold audio-visual rights individually to its technology partners.

The Spanish government has formally introduced a new legally binding legislation with a clear motive of dividing revenue more equally across all clubs, which ensures that Madrid and Barcelona must receive a smaller percentage of the overall total sum generated. This move was created to reduce the financial domination of Real Madrid and Barcelona which would, in turn, help the league to grow popularity globally.

Tebas said, "We must be more competitive now and this regulation is necessary," he told Spanish publication, AS. "Madrid, mistakenly, have been the most resistant. They are not aware of what this can mean. Their positioning against La Liga, taking us to the courts, is wrong, it damages them. It is an attitude from the past, and even lacking in class, but they were not able to stop the rules coming in. Three times their legal attempts to block it were unsuccessful." Tebas said recently.

La Liga president explained the importance of the new TV deal to the other clubs as he continued, " Madrid and Barca are not going to change too much, and those below will grow a lot. Some clubs will even double their revenues. The difference will be smaller. Atletico's share will grow. Villarreal and Sevilla will be up there [this season]. And I would put forward one of those from the middle -- Real Betis."

La Liga's figures the past season has revealed that Real Madrid were the most watched team in Spain but Barcelona ruled the ratings overseas. Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Valencia follow the two giants of football. This deal was agreed upon by all the clubs except Real Madrid as the Lod Blancos even went to the courts to appeal against this agreement. Real Madrid begin their league campaign on Sunday against Real Sociedad.
