Quique Setien was tipped as a potential replacement for Valverde
When talk of sacking Ernesto Valverde was gaining traction, many failed to realize the major conundrum it would have placed Barcelona in.

Sacking a manager at a club is only the first and easy step, the far more difficult one is getting an upgrade on the bench who would improve results.
However, a cursory look at the managerial landscape would reveal one fact; there is a dearth of top-quality managers on the market for Barcelona. The elite ones who fit their profile are all already taken, while those left are not exactly suited to the Blaugrana system.
At that point, names like Eusebio Sacristan, Quique Setien Flores, Erik ten Haag and even Mikel Arteta were bandied about as potential replacements for Valverde, but while all four men might have something to bring to the table, appointing them would have very much been a risk that could go either way.
