Lampard: "Has left a mark like no other player in Chelsea's history"

As more and more stories and speculation appear from day to day about the future of Frank Lampard at Chelsea, one ex-player has had his say and is spot on.

Graeme Le Saux spent two spells at Chelsea and it was in his second spell at the club he played next to Frank Lampard, who had only just joined the club. Little did he or anyone know the impact that Lampard would have at Chelsea.

11 years on and Lampard is just a single goal away from equaling Bobby Tambling’s record of 202 goals for Chelsea and two away from the record.

With it looking like there will be no contract offer unless a certain Mr. Mourinho can intervene, it’s looking like Lampard will be leaving us and if that happens Le Saux has said:

“Whatever happens, Frank is going to leave a mark on the club like no other player in history at Chelsea, Frank’s contribution to the team over so many years has been immense – not just what he’s achieved, obviously, with his goalscoring but his overall contribution; it has been enormous.He’s become the cornerstone of Chelsea’s recent success. Any player of that stature is a loss if they leave but, equally, can offer a lot for the club both on and off the pitch if they stay. It’s between him and the club to decide a way forward.”

He’s spot on and I keep on saying it, but it’s only when Frank Lampard leaves Chelsea or hangs up his boots that people will sit down and focus on what he has achieved as a player and his fantastic goal scoring record. Lampard has a record that strikers would be proud of and for a midfielder it’s outstanding.
