Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard believes the club can challenge for the Premier League title this season if they can find some consistency.
The Blues are four points off the leaders Arsenal after beating West Ham United 3-0 and are level with Liverpool but have not been firing on all cylinders since Jose Mourinho’s return in the summer.
Chelsea showed flash of their old brilliance in the comfortable win at Upton Park on Saturday in which Lampard scored twice and the club’s top scorer thinks they can launch a proper challenge if they stay consistent.
“Nobody has caught fire except perhaps Arsenal and we are in touching distance of them,” Lampard said.
“We are in a position where we can say ‘Yes, we want to improve and challenge to win the league’. I think we are in a good spot to do that.
“The talent in the squad is there and the consistency and spirit and desire and mentality has to be there. We have to do that every week. If we can do it over 10 games and put a real run of wins together then maybe we will scare other teams.”
He added: “But at the moment, everybody is in the mix and nobody has pulled away, so we have to try to put that run together. We have to make sure as a squad we have to work towards one goal.
“Our away form has not been great. That is probably what has kept us off the top of the league. If you are going to challenge for the league you have got to win away from home regularly. We need to start doing that.”
