Laurent Koscielny is hoping he can be the man to fire Arsenal to Premier League glory, hoping to emulate his last day heroics for the club on a bigger scale this season.
Koscielny has made a habit of scoring on the last day of the season for the Gunners, with his goals against West Brom in 2012 and Newcastle in 2013 proving vital to Arsenal qualifying for the Champions League.
And with expectations having risen with Arsenal currently topping the table, Koscielny is hoping he can one better and net the winning goal that clinches the title, come the climax of the season.
Koscielny told the media, “I took the bet that I’ll score the goal that’ll make us champions, because for the last two seasons, I have got the goals that got us into the Champions League.
“Both at West Brom in 2012 and Newcastle last year, my goals clinched our place in the top four, so hopefully I can score an even more important one this year in our last game at Norwich.
“But I have to admit I don’t have a secret formula.”
The Gunners’ defender also spoke of his pride at Arsenal’s defensive record this season, with another shut-out against Crystal Palace on Sunday being their 11th clean sheet of the season and he hopes they can maintain that level until the end of the season.
“The team needs all the players on the pitch to do their defensive job.
“It’s very important, because if you want to win, it’s easier if you concede no goals.
“I think the defenders hate to concede a goal, so we work hard to keep clean sheets. We need to continue to work hard like this for the other games.”
Arsenal sit top of the table after 24 games and boast the second best defensive record in the league, with only Chelsea having conceded fewer goals.
Laurent Koscielny has made 62 interceptions this season, more than any other defender in the Premier League.
