For football fans around the world who are eagerly waiting to quench their thirst for club football action, a temporary respite has come in the form of the leaked fixture list for the 2016-17 Premier League season. The fixture list that is doing rounds on social media and has also been reported by Express has come 10 days prior to the official announcement from the English FA on June 15th.
It remains to be seen if the leaked fixtures are in fact true or if it is a valiant attempt by some football fan to break the internet. If they are true, then the desperation of the person who leaked it is unreal.
According to the leaked fixtures, Jose Mourinho’s first game in charge of Manchester United will be against Burnley at Turf Moor. While, the eagerly awaited first Manchester derby against Mourinho’s arch rival, Pep Guardiola, will take place on December 17.
Chelsea will kick-off their campaign under Antonio Conte away to Southampton, while champions Leicester will start their title defence at home to Sunderland.
It is Liverpool’s opening fixtures that raise questions about the authenticity of this leaked fixture list as the Reds have apparently asked to schedule their opening two games away from home due to their ongoing stadium renovation. According to the fixture, Liverpool start away to West Brom, but play Burnley at home in the second game.
Pep Guardiola will manage his first league game in England by hosting tough customers Stoke City at home and this match will be interesting due to Stoke’s infamous style of play.
Tottenham Hotspur start their league campaign with three relatively easy fixtures against Swansea City, Stoke City and Hull City. However, their fixtures in September could define the pattern of their season as they play Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool in succession.
