Romelu Lukaku, in a recent interaction with the media, said it was not a very tough decision to switch allegiance to Everton, thus ending his boyhood dream of playing for Chelsea.
The Belgian recently made Goodison Park his permanent home after Everton decided to break the bank, paying a club record £28million to bring the forward to Merseyside. The ex-Anderlecht youngster was a vital cog in the Machinery for Everton last season as his 15 league goals helped the Toffees to a fifth place finish in the Premier League table.
“For me, it’s easy. I just want to improve and get better year after year," he said.
“I’m not saying Chelsea are not a good team, but I needed to be in a place where it felt right. It almost feels that I belong here. That’s why I came back. I have a very good relationship with the players and the staff.
Lukaku: I can develop under Roberto Martinez
“Roberto Martinez has been very influential. He’s someone who knows football. Someone I can develop under as a player.
“He makes us all better as a team. I want to become one of the best and he wants to make our team one of the best teams in England.”
Lukaku arrived at Chelsea in 2011, when the Blues paid €12 million (£10 million), rising to €20 million (£17 million) for his services to Belgian club Anderlecht. The fee was then a record payment for a teenager. However, Lukaku never got to showcase his potential at Stamford Bridge, with none of the managers giving him a single start in his three seasons at the club.
The Belgian in fact, only appeared 8 times in the blue of Chelsea. However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom for the talented youngster in England.
The powerhouse of a striker went out on loan to West Brom and Everton last two seasons, impressing all with his play which garnered him 32 goals in 66 appearances.
