More often than not the mundane life of the corporate sector takes away the zeal and the passion from the employees who spend much of their day in front of the computer screens repeatedly doing the same job five days a week. The usual 9-5 jobs often do not live upto the promises, and further give you little chance to express your creativity. While the prospect of working in a large office is often appealing, it does take away the motivation that brought you there in the first place.
To beat the monotony, “The Legends Cup” was introduced to promote football in the corporate sector. Started in 2011, the tournament has seen various MNC’s come together on the same pitch to compete for a coveted trip to the UK, to catch their favourite Premier League side play.
“In a country dominated by cricket, we wanted to introduce football at a much larger level so that it can appeal the corporate sector. The idea was to put the focus on the corporate sector, which has established itself as one of the biggest employement generation sector in India.” Hemant Sharma, MD ItMagia solutions said.
The tournament has become the biggest footballing event in the corporate sector and is currently being played in three cities; Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi. What started with just one city and a mere 16 teams, has now seen the participation rise to more than 100 teams in three cities.
37 teams participated in Bangalore, while more than 40 teams came together for the event in Mumbai. A similar figure is expected for Delhi as well, where the tournament starts on 7th November 2015.
The winners of all three cities will come together to play against each other to decide the Legends Cup winners, who will then get to visit a Premier League game of their choice.
The action will unfold on the 7th and 8th November 2015 at the Plaza Farms in Chattarpur, Delhi, where Maverick Solutions from Bangalore and Willis from Mumbai, both the state champions will battle it out with the winner from the Delhi leg to be crowned the National winner.
“This is what we were so very much looking forward to. This is a huge platform for us corporate players who barely get to play and be rewarded at the same time. This is a wonderful initiative by the organizers,” a bouyant Garvesh Taneja, the captain of Accenture said.
The tournament indeed provides a glorious opportunity for those in the corporate sector to step out of their usual cubicals and come out in the open to challenge their competitors albeit in a very sporting manner.
