FA cup winners Wigan Atletic have signed Norwich City centre half Leon Barnett. It is the ninth signing this summer by the Wigan manager Owen Coyle since taking over the club.
The 27-year-old Barnett was impressive in his stint with Cadiff on loan who won the Championship last year and now has signed a 3-year deal with Wigan.
Praising the defender, who has been signed for an undisclosed fee, Coyle said, “To see the desire Leon has to play for Wigan Athletic is tremendous.”
“We are all delighted to have enticed a player of his caliber to our club. He has shown his qualities in the Premier League on numerous occasions and has the experience of being successful in a division as tough as the Championship”
“That kind of experience for someone who is still only 27 years old is fantastic, and I believe that while he has much maturity in his play he also has huge potential to become an even better player here at Wigan Athletic”.
Coyle’s other signings are goalkeeper Scott Carson, defenders Juan Carlos Garcia, Thomas Rogne and Stephen Crainey, midfielders James Perch and Chris McCann, and strikers Grant Holt and Marc-Antoine Fortune.
