In what could be the second biggest transfer news after Falcao to AS Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain’s director of football, Leonardo, has disclosed that they have tabled a bid to Napoli for the Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani in an attempt to team him up with Zlatan Ibrahamovic .
Leonardo also hoped that PSG’s deal will be enough to tempt Napoli to sell their prized asset.
Former AC Milan coach, Leonardo revealed to Il Matino: “We presented an offer to [Napoli president Aurelio] De Laurentiis that I consider to be very interesting.
“We are pursuing negotiations. We remain in contact and there could be new developments over the next days.”
The 26-year-old Uruguayan international ended last season as Serie A’s top goalscorer with 29 goals as the Napoli finished in second spot in Serie A.
Cavani, whose deal with Napoli runs until 2017, has been attracting huge interest this summer from European powerhouses like Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea but a €63 million release clause in his contract has made difficult for the other clubs to lure him away from Naples.
However, reports in Italy suggest PSG are believed to be the first club to have activated the release clause of €63m that De Laurentiis is adamant on.
