Lesotho and Morocco return to action in Group B of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers when they lock horns at the Stade Adrar on Monday. Both sides head into the game off the back of contrasting opening-day results, with Walid Regragui’s men claiming an emphatic win over Gabon.
Lesotho suffered a dissapointing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Central African Republic in the Group B curtain-raiser at the Stade El Abdi on Thursday.
Louis Mafouta netted a first-half brace to put Central African Republic two goals up, and after Sara Motebang halved the deficit in the 56th minute, Goduine Koyalipou struck six minutes later to restore Les Fauves’ two-goal advantage.
Lesotho have now failed to win their last five matches, a run which saw them crash out of the COSAFA Cup in the group stages after picking up one point from a possible nine in Group C back in July.
Morocco, on the other hand, picked up a dream start to their AFCON qualifying campaign as they stormed to a 4-1 victory over Gabon on Friday.
In a one-sided affair at the Stade Adrar, goals from Brahim Diaz, Ayoub El Kaabi and a brace from Hakim Ziyech fired Regragui’s men to a resounding opening-day victory in front of their home supporters.
Morocco, who are the highest-ranked African nation according to FIFA (14), head into Monday on a four-game winning streak and will look to keep the juggernaut rolling.
