Lewandowski to stay at Dortmund, claims Dortmund CEO Watzke

Manchester United received a set back today, after Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed that Dortmund is in no mood to sell their top striker Robert Lewandowski. Lewandowski is highly rated and has been linked to a summer move to Old Trafford.

The news broke out last week when Poland coach Franciszek Smuda said “Lewy’ is going to Manchester United”. Smuda broke the news day before Poland’s opening game in Euro 012.

Dortmund CEO Watzke has rubbished the rumors, and confirmed by saying that there is no formal offer made for the striker as of now.

“It doesn’t matter what’s being said. I don’t know how often I have to repeat this, but Lewandowski will definitely be staying with us. There have not been any official approaches,”said Watzke

“We all know how these things go. A lot of stuff is written in Poland. I know Smuda really well. He rates us, and we rate him. It’s hard to imagine him saying that” Watzke went on to add

United are looking for a new No. 9, after striker Dimitar Berbatov confirmed that he wants to leave Old Trafford. United also confirmed the release of Michael Owen from the club. This leaves Ferguson with Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez as his main striking options.

Will Ferguson sign Lewandowski, or will Dortmund be able to hold on to their hitman? Lewandowski has two years left on his contract. Bottm line is, it doesn’t matter if Lewandowski joins United or not, but United need to invest on a top-class striker during the Summer Transfer window.
