Real Madrid star forward Cristiano Ronaldo made a clean sweep at the LFP awards as he claimed all the three individual accolades he was nominated in. The Spanish top flight’s top performers of 2013/14 season were acknowledged on Monday night which also included the manager of the season.
Ronaldo wins three awards on the night
Ronaldo was voted as the best player of La Liga ahead of Diego Costa and Carlos Vela as the Portuguese finished as the top scorer of the season with 31 goals from 30 games. He was also recognised as the best forward of the campaign and his back flick goal against Valencia in week 36 got him the Best Goal award thus collecting a hat-trick of prizes.
The Ballon d'Or holder becomes only the second player to win the prize since its inception in 2008-09, with Lionel Messi having won all five of the previous titles.
"I have to thank my team-mates, Real Madrid, my family... it is a very good moment in my career," he said
"For me, the important thing is to win collective prizes, but I like the individual ones, too. I work every day, in training, to continue adding more to this."
It was a field day for the city of Madrid at the ceremony as Sergio Ramos, Luka Modric and Keylor Navas were voted as best defender, midfielder and goalkeeper respectively.
Simeone wins manager of the season
And Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone was duly acknowledged as the best coach after inspiring his side to a title win last season.
"I want to share this with my players, without whom none of this would be possible," Simeone said. "Thanks to Koke, Gabi, Miranda, Courtois... and everyone who made it possible to win the title."
Andres Iniesta was named the best attacking midfielder whereas Rafinha Alcantara was awarded with the best breakthrough player of the season.
