Malaga trounce Zenit
Manuel Pellegrini: “The team is very focused on what it is doing.”
Young Spanish midfielder Isco scored a brace, while club’s new signing Saviola was able to put one home too as the La Liga side put the big-spending Russians to the sword at the Rosaleda and put themselves atop Group C.
The manager spoke about the overwhelming experience and well earned victory: “The team played fantastic football against a big rival, who never let their guard down. They also had several chances to score throughout the match. This result in La Rosaleda was definitely well-deserved, as the team was completely focused on the game for the entire 90 minutes. One of our main objectives is not to give one competition priority over another. The team is working well at the moment, and full of motivation to continue performing well and working hard, despite the few problems we had, which is the best way forward. It’s been a really wonderful day, though I never like to compare matches. La Rosaleda played host to this fantastic performance by the team.”
Pellegrini then spoke about his young star, Isco, who scored two of the three goals in the 3-0 win. “Isco has a very bright future. He’s only just starting his career, so who knows what he’ll achieve in the future. The most important thing now is that he’s part of Málaga.”
Jose has no problem with Sergio Ramos, who apparently is rumored to be dating Pilar Rubio:
José Mourinho has insisted he has no problem with Sergio Ramos after the defender was left out on the bench while Frenchman Varane started ahead of him this Tuesday evening. Mourinho said: “He didn’t play because the coach decided that he didn’t play. He is a fantastic player, but I want to make clear [to] some of you experts [at] changing the truth, there are no problems with Ramos. This decision was taken purely on sports grounds.”
Later, Ramos used his Twitter account to congratulate the team but there was sign of dispute burning within the team. He tweeted: “I congratulate all my team mates for the great effort and the win in the Champions League,” he said. On the other hand, the defender has supposedly started dating Pilar Rubio, Spain’s “most desired TV host”, after a source told “El Mundo del Siglo XXI” that they were somewhere in between “a fling and a relationship”.
Sergio Aguero and his contrasting comments.
The former Atletico Madrid player recently claimed that he would never join Atletico’s fierce rival Real Madrid, given out of respect for the Los Coclchoneros. He stated: “I had great memories at Atletico and I could not betray them by joining Real.” His post-match comments were rather opposing and he was found admitting that a transfer to Real Madrid last season could have happened had the Spanish giants opted to rival Manchester City‘s bid for him. He would have had no problems leaving Atletico for their arch rivals had Real manager Jose Mourinho made an offer for him.
He claimed: “If Real Madrid had been interested in me, then I would be here. I had no option but to join City. I want to take this opportunity to refute the information where I supposedly said that I would never play for Real Madrid because I played at Atletico. It was published in an English newspaper.” Although, he later tweeted: ‘I feel comfortable and appreciated in @MCFC – it’s a project I feel involved in. We want more titles and we’ll get them!’
Now, we will have to wait and see if we would see him playing for the other side of Madrid.
Updates on Luciano Galletti:
Luciano Galletti , a former of Zaragoza and Atletico Madrid player, has been going through a dark time in his life.
Already retired from football two seasons ago because of a kidney condition, the donor for the former Argentinean International was no one other than his father Rubén Horacio Galletti, the “West”, a former striker of River.
He said: “Both of the kidneys are affected. After several studies, it was found out that either of my parents’ kidney was compatible. But, given the fact that my father was an athlete, and a male with a 100% fit kidney, he was chosen as the donor. If everything goes well, in a month or 20 days I could start training for a bit. Doctors told me there is also a possibility of my return to play football professionally.”
We wish Luciano a quick recovery!
Tito: “We owe it to ourselves to win the Champions League.”
Tito Vilanova , coach of Barcelona , spoke before his debut as head coach in the Champions League. He accepted that Barcelona would be favourites to win the game, but recalled a similar situation in October 2009, when the side managed by then Pep Guardiola, that saw Rubin Kazan upset the odds to win 2-1.
He said: “It is very important to begin the group stages well. If you do not win, you are already on the back foot. We have been comfortable in recent years, but in Europe all games are difficult. We have had experience of being favourites in games and then suffering, as against Rubin. It is not so easy as it seems. Manchester United and Manchester City were knocked out in the group phase last season. Speaking at this stage about favourites is not real. If we reach the semi-finals we can talk about that then. Not now. Spartak have a very good team, with a reference point up front in (Emmanuel) Emenike, They are very dangerous on the counter-attack. Emery is a coach who has always been brave and made things difficult for us.”
Mourinho: “For me as a coach, more important than winning is to be proud of my team.”
Fernando Gago arrived back in Valencia on Tuesday afternoon. The midfielder has spent the past few days convalescing in Argentina after suffering concussion in last week’s 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
Cristiano Ronaldo spoke to the media after Real Madrid’s dramatic late win over Manchester City in the Champions League group stage, and said that the most important thing was that the fans were happy.
Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova faced the media ahead of the Champions League clash with Spartak Moscow at the Camp Nou, a competition in which the culés have reached the semi-finals for the last five years running.
Marca: Another great European night for the Men in White!
Mundo Deportivo: Focuses on Barcelona’s Road to Wembley.
