Lyon manager Remi Garde is hopeful that the club’s striker Bafetimbi Gomis will sign a new contract with the Ligue 1 side. The striker, who has been on the radar of Newcastle United, will reportedly not leave the club as the deal has likely failed to materialise, as reported by Skysports.
Since the deals broke down, the 47-year-old coach is keen on fulfilling the club chairman’s desire to keep Gomis at Stade de Gerland. The manager has also confirmed that the new contract is down the line, and the wait is only for the Frenchman to sign the new deal up.
“He has had a contract extension proposition in his hands for months,” he told L’Equipe.
“I have no personal problem with Bafe. I am waiting for an outcome. We have to find a solution that could satisfy three parties.
“The most important thing is to have opened doors as the chairman did.”
