Back in June, Joao Felix refused to pick either Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo as the greatest player of all time. Felix appeared to avoid creating a conflict of interest when he was asked to pick his ‘GOAT’ as he chose Brazilian icon Ronaldinho as the best player ever.
While there are many legends who will forever be remembered for their contributions to the beautiful game, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s supremacy will arguably exceed other players due to their longevity.
To put into perspective how the greatness of the duo has transcended football, Ballon d’Or winners were asked to choose who was better between the Argentine icon and his Portuguese rival.
Joao Félix, who is a Portugal international, played for Barcelona on loan from 2023 to 2024. He left the Catalan club in the summer and currently plies this trade at Premier League side Chelsea.
While Felix was in Barcelona, he was asked to make his choice on the never-ending GOAT debate in a question-and-answer question. In response, Felix said:
''Ronaldinho’’
To many, Joao Felix’s response was somewhat diplomatic given that he was representing Barcelona, a club that idolizes Lionel Messi at the time. On the international stage, he is a Portuguese alongside five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.
Felix has scored 87 goals and provided 42 assists in 294 appearances throughout his professional club career.
Paul Pogba gives honest admission about Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo debate
Earlier this month, Juventus outcast Paul Pogba gave his two cents on the age-old discussion on the better player between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. The French midfielder, who is preparing to return to the sport following a ban, joined popular online streamer IShowSpeed in a video discussion.
During the discussion, Speed threw the ‘GOAT’ debate question to Pogba.
‘’Let me ask you this: Ronaldo or Messi?’’
Pogba responded:
"For me, there is no Ronaldo vs Messi. If I have to make a team, if I need to score goals, I will take Cristiano. Really, only to score goals. But if I need a playmaker who can score goals and make assists, I'll take Messi. Everyday."
In another clip, Pogba and Speed discussed the two football icons. The former attempted to persuade the latter that Messi was the better player in all aspects but all to no avail. Pogba then stressed his point, saying:
"You like Cristiano, I love the style and everything. Some people love Messi, because do you see what he's doing? Messi is different. Have you ever seen Messi? He's like that, right [short]? But you think you can push him and stuff like that. How can a person like this - so small - do this to people?"
