Lionel Messi’s goal in the clash against Bayern Munich was voted UEFA’s Best Goal of the Season, voted by the users. The Argentine magician received 1,99,190 votes for his audacious chip over Manuel Neuer in the semi-final of the Champions League last season.
The goal was top quality from Messi, who first dribbled past Jerome Boateng who fell on his backside before lofting the ball over Ballon d’Or nominee with his weaker right foot. Messi turned out to be the star man on the night, scoring twice with Neymar adding the cherry on top with the third goal which allowed Barcelona to win the first leg at the Camp Nou with a comfortable 3-0 victory.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen wins Best Save of the Season award
FC Barcelona’s German goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen pulled off the most sublime save in the Champions League semi-final, according to voters. The young keeper denied Robert Lewandowski’s effort by making a stunning save and then scrambled back toward his goal before sweeping the ball just before it crossed the line.
The stunning double save made by Ter Stegen proved to be crucial in the tie against Bayern Munich and was enough to take the Blaugrana side to the Champions League final. His performance on the night was admirable, denying Bayern Munich any chance of levelling the tie.
And in doing so, his save was voted UEFA’s Save of the Season getting 28% of the votes, while his compatriot Neuer’s performance and save against Roma was second with 20%. Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon’s brilliance in denying Dani Alves in the final also received 20% of the votes.
