It’s still very early into the La Liga season as only three fixtures have been played by all sides in the league. But for Lionel Messi, it’s never too soon to perform his trademark nutmegs on opponents and the Barcelona star has already done it thrice in his first three games.
The Blaugranas are unbeaten so far with nine points from three games- a perfect start to the new campaign for the defending champions as they have captured the top spot on the table for now. And in the heart of their success has been the trio of Neymar, Messi and Luis Suarez- a trident that scored 122 goals last season and inspired Barca to their second treble.
While Messi failed to register in his opening two matches against Athletic Bilbao and Malaga, he did come on as a substitute in the second half against Atletico Madrid to net in the winner and decide an evenly-fought encounter.
But goals or not, the 28-year-old is known for dictating play and contributing in some other aspect when he is not scoring and dribbling players to create space for his team mates is one thing the Argentine does brilliantly.
Last season, Messi’s nutmegs against Manchester City players in the Champions League was one of the highlights of the two-legged fixture, most notably on James Milner which left everyone watching astonished, including his former coach Pep Guardiola in the stands.
And this season, the four-time Ballon d’Or winner seems to have picked up from where he left as he has already managed to successfully execute three nutmegs against Bilbao, Malaga and Atletico respectively.
