Messi wins the UEFA Award for 2010-11 Season Cartoon

Lionel Messi won the UEFA player of the year award for the 2010-2011 season pipping the effervescent Cristiano Ronaldo from league rival Real Madrid and teammate from Barcelona Xavi Henrnandez. Messi’s selection can be attributed to the great support he has got from the super team at Barcelona, which has made his performances and contribution look far more heroic and standout than if it were not for the support. The performance at the Super Cup against Real where he took on Jose Mourinho shows the amount of confidence Mess has mustered, all thanks to his team.

Messi has scored 50+ goals in 2010-11 season, 12 of them in the UEFA Champions League, where he finished as top scorer the third season in a row. The draw for the award was held at Grimaldi forum in the picturesque Monaco where 53 journalists from each of the member associations of the UEFA participated in the voting process.

Messi’s a is a real charmed story of a kid who had to give up on football due to a hormonal problem which stunted his growth getting him the nickname ‘The Flea’. Though he stands at a measly 169 cms, its tough to stop him, due to this tremendous burst of speed combined with balance and flair. He definitely is the next to the throne in Argentinian legend after the great Diego Maradona. Long live Messi, long live beautiful football.
