Atletico Madrid player ratings against Liverpool
Jan Oblak: 5/10
Jan Oblak was kept busy throughout the game. Despite conceding two early goals, he made four smart saves to keep the scoreline in check.
Kieran Trippier: 5/10
Kieran Trippier endured a bruising return to England, picking up a couple of nasty knocks during his industrious performance at right-back.
Felipe: 3/10
An ill-judged, cynical challenge on Liverpool's Sadio Mane in the 36th minute saw Felipe receive his marching orders in the first half itself.
Jose Gimenez: 5/10
Jose Gimenez was part of a resolute rearguard action from the 10 men of Atletico Madrid. He was quite solid in defence for the Spaniards.
Mario Hermoso: 5/10
Despite picking up an early booking, Mario Hermoso dealt well with the formidable threat posed by Mo Salah and kept the Egyptian in check.
Koke: 5/10
Koke was characteristically combative in midfield and was one of several Atletico Madrid players to be booked. His hard-working yet largely ineffective performance came to an end when he was taken off in the 70th minute.
Rodrigo de Paul: 5/10
Rodrigo de Paul matched Koke with his tenacity and physicality in the Atletico Madrid midfield, keeping the ball moving swiftly with intelligent passing.
Yannick Carrasco: 5/10
The Belgian was one of the few bright spots in a disappointing display from Atletico Madrid. He troubled Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold with his excellent dribbling.
Angel Correa: 5/10
Angel Correa was enterprising in attack but found clear-cut chances hard to come by. He was replaced in the 75th minute.
Joao Felix: 4/10
Joao Felix had a frustrating time on the pitch. He struggled to link up with his fellow attackers and get past Liverpool’s solid defence. The Portugal international was taken off on the hour mark.
Luis Suarez: 4/10
This was another unhappy return to Anfield for Luis Suarez, who found himself closely marked and starved of service throughout the game. When he did have the ball in the net, the goal was chalked off for an offside in the build-up.
Substitutes:
Hector Herrera: 4/10
Hextor Herrera failed to make much of an impact after coming on for the final half an hour.
Renan Lodi: 5/10
Having come on in the second half, Renan Lodi found it tough to keep up with Mo Salah’s dancing feet. However, he stuck to his task manfully.
Matheus Cunha: 6/10
The Brazilian put in an energetic cameo, forcing a couple of presentable chances by putting pressure on the Liverpool defence.
Sime Vrsaljko: 5/10
The experienced defender came on for the final 20 minutes to help keep the damage to a minimum.
Javi Serrano: N.A.
The youngster got some valuable Champions League minutes under his belt but barely got on the ball during his time on the pitch.
