Liverpool have released their new away kit which they will be wearing in the 2016/17 season. Under manager Jurgen Klopp, who goes into the second year as Liverpool boss, the Premier League side will look to put behind the series of mediocre performances over the years and finally bring home a trophy of worth. The new away kit is a tribute to Liverpool’s first European Cup victory in 1977 where they beat Borussia Monchengladbach 3-1 in Rome.
The away shirt is primarily black with red and silver trims on the front and sides. The shirt also bears the iconic Liver bird crest to remember the first of their five European victories.
The kit is manufactured by New Balance and their logo is positioned on the right chest. The name of the present shirt sponsor ‘Standard Chartered’ runs across the chest in silver and the jersey has a silver-tipped shaped crew collar.
Liverpool Captain Jordan Henderson, commenting on the new away kit by New Balance, said, “Everyone is aware of the history of this great club, both domestically and abroad. This latest away kit looks great and having the words of Bill Shankly on the kit reminds us of what Liverpool FC means, inspiring us every time we play away from Anfield.”
The new kit has been developed using NB Dry technology. The fabric dries faster making the players keep cool. The gradient mesh at the back of the jersey allows air movement giving players the maximum comfort possible.
Latest heat bonding technology has also been used in creating the design. Featuring a body-mapping mesh to key zonal areas on the shoulders with reinforced seams down the side panels makes the kit more comfortable and reduce friction compared to traditional fabric constructions. Air flow is further enabled via the laser-cut and bonded eyelets placed to the underarms.
The famous quote of legendary Liverpool manager Bill Shankly-“Liverpool was made for me and I was made for Liverpool” is placed on the internal hem of the shirt.
The tragic event of Hillsborough is commemorated through the 96 emblem encased by eternal flames which are positioned at the nape of the neck. Black shorts with flame red detailing accompany the shirt.
Goalkeeper Kit
A mixture of orange and black is adopted for the new goalkeeper kit which has been modelled by Simon Mignolet. The goalkeeper kit is constructed with engineered Flex fabric panels to offer a greater range of movement. A black shoulder in a primarily orange shirt is complemented by orange shorts. Matching orange socks completes the goalkeeper kit.
General Manager of New Balance Football Richard Wright said while commenting on the kit: “Liverpool FC is historically England’s most successful team in Europe and this kit is a fitting tribute to that remarkable achievement. With the seam-free body mapping technology and NB Dry each player will be competing in a truly advanced and stylish kit.”
