EPL Transfer News Liverpool : Two Carroll bids rejected, Torres move nears completion

Will Andy Carroll be Torres's replacement?

Liverpool who are on verge of losing their star striker Fernando Torres to Chelsea have seen two of their bids for star striker Andy Carrol rejected by Newcastle United. A £30 million bid was earlier rejected by Newcastle, but negotiations continued and Liverpool tabled a £35 million bid was reported as meeting the Toon’s demands. But the second bid has also been rejected with the striker’s value increasing by the hour as the deadline looms large.

Carroll who was the subject of a failed bid from Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week has been on the radar of Liverpool who will be short of options up front if ‘El Nino’ is sold to Chelsea before the end of the transfer deadline today. With their consistent pursuit of Carroll, Liverpool are looking to clear Torres’s path to Chelsea of all obstacles.

Reports are coming in that the transfer of Torres is on the verge of completion with BBC sports journalist Dan Roan saying, ”Reliably informed that talks on image rights and salary (approx 175k/week) are all that remains for Torres deal to be completed.’

Earlier, Liverpool Manager Kenny Dalglish had stressed the need for a replacement when a player leaves the club. “If someone’s going to go, you’ve got to have a replacement”, he said at a press conference when asked about the Fernando Torres transfer saga.

22 year old Carroll who has grown from a boy in the Championship to a man in the Premier League, has netted 11 goals for Newcastle United in this Premier League season and has shown significant promise. If Carroll completes the move, he would become the 8th most expensive footballer of all time.

Amidst all the transfer melee, one thing seems to be apparent – Fernando Torres who was unlikely to be wearing a Blues shirt during the upcoming fixture against Liverpool might just be doing so.

The transfer deadline day is heating up and I for one reason have things to be happy about and also disappointed as a Liverpool fan as the Reds could possibly be on their most significant transfer period in their history. The Reds transfer record might be broken today if they manage to capture Andy Carroll. But as much as that can happen, the bigger picture of Fernando Torres leaving Anfield and joining Chelsea for £50m looms over the world of Football.

Time is running out before the transfer window closes. What is going to happen? I am as psyched as ever. Are you? Bring in your comments.
