What's the story?
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has shut down rumors of Mohamed Salah's move to Juventus, adding that the Premier League is a far more competitive league for a player of his caliber than the Serie A.
In case you didn't know...
Reports of Salah's departure from Liverpool has been consistent in the rumor mill, with clubs like Real Madrid reportedly showing interest in his services.
In recent weeks, however, the 26-year-old forward has been heavily linked with a move to Turin-based outfit Juventus. Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly also sanctioned a summer move for the forward, with a potential transfer costing around £175 million.
Having risen through the ranks in the Premier League, the Egyptian went from being a reject at Stamford Bridge to a Premier League Golden Boot winner in his debut season with Liverpool and ultimately a Ballon d'Or nominee.
This season, the talismanic front man has once again crossed the 20-goal mark and the numbers are set to go up as the campaign progresses.
The heart of the matter
Murphy was quick to shut down the rumors surrounding Salah, stating that while the Egypt international is a player who will always be linked to European giants, he is unlikely to move away from Anfield as the current Liverpool side is closer than ever to a Champions League title.
Speaking to Sporting Bet, the former Liverpool midfielder said:
"I don’t see Salah being remotely tempted to leave Liverpool and the Premier League. I’ve seen reports that Juventus are interested, but that’s not going to happen."
He continued:
"The Premier League is far more competitive and stimulating than Serie A and Liverpool are more capable of winning the Champions League than Juventus. Salah is a player who will always now be linked with Europe’s biggest teams, but he is happy at Liverpool and the fans love him. He’s playing the best football of his career at Liverpool."
Murphy also compared Salah's scenario to that of Coutinho's, opining:
"I don’t think it would ever be a Coutinho style situation, where he always wanted to play for Barcelona and forced through a move."
What's next?
Liverpool will hope to extend their lead in the Premier League table when they welcome Watford to Anfield on 27 February.
