Liverpool have made a £20 million bid for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, according to The Telegraph.
Brendan Rodgers has made it clear that he wants to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season. The bid of £20m is believed to have triggered the Brazilian striker’s release clause.
Liverpool hope the 24-year-old and Atletico Madrid will agree to deal, so it can be completed as soon as possible.
After the departure of Radamel Falcao to Monaco, Costa was expected to play a bigger role at Vicente Calderon. This wasn’t the case as Los Colchoneros signed David Villa from Barcelona as the Colombian’s replacement indicating the door was open for Diego Costa to leave.
Despite Falcao being the main striker at Atletico Madrid, Diego Costa scored 20 goals in 44 games last season, 10 of those in the La Liga.
A bit like Luis Suarez, Costa is a controversial player in Spain with a chequered disciplinary record. If the deal goes through, this could signal the Uruguayan international’s departure from Anfield.
