Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is believed to have revived his interest in Micah Richards after the defender turned down a new five-year deal at Manchester City, reports the Daily Mail.
Richards has been unhappy with his lack of playing time with the Citizens this season after falling behind Pablo Zabaleta in the pecking order and Liverpool have been long linked with a move for the former England international.
Rodgers has made defensive reinforcements Liverpool’s priority for the summer with the full-back positions believed to be an issue the Liverpool boss wants to address and Richards’ versatility to play in the centre as well has intrigued the Norther Irishman.
Richards has been with Manchester City his entire career after progressing through their youth ranks, but the new influx of money at the club and a succession of injuries has seen him drop down the pecking order and seen his first team chances limited.
Manuel Pellegrini has not been convinced by the Englishman and his contract offer appeared to merely be to comply with the homegrown rule, but Richards has made it clear he no longer sees his future at the club and wishes to depart this summer.
Richards does still have one year left to run on his current deal at the Etihad stadium, and City are believed to still want £8million for the defender, having been loath to sell to a Premier league rival.
