According to reports in the Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Liverpool have joined the race to sign Porto striker Jackson Martinez who has a €40m release clause.
The 27 year old striker has put on some eye catching performances scoring forty three goals in fifty three appearances for Porto since joining the Portuguese giants from the Mexican outfit Chiapas F.C. in 2012.
The Colombian has recently said “The years are passing and one day I hope to make a good transfer. It clearly depends on Porto, a club that sells its players so well. Leaving or staying depends on Porto but I will only go if there is something concrete.” when asked by the Daily Star’s David Wright in an interview.
The Reds have made a surprisingly good start to the season and are planning to sustain their surge by signing the Colombian hitman. The Merseyside sit two points behind leaders Arsenal largely thanks to the flourishing Suarez and Sturridge strike pair.
It won’t be that easy as earlier reports from TalkSPORT suggested AS Monaco are also keen to bolster their frontline and are eyeing the Porto man. The in demand striker is also Jose Mourinho’s January target and reports suggest a possible move as Jose still has close ties with his former club.
League leaders Arsenal also have made clear their intentions of signing a Striker in the January window as a cover for Giroud. Demba Ba and Martinez are reported to be the prime targets as the Gooners press to end their title drought in recent years.
