Liverpool have offered Chelsea defender Ashley Cole a one-year contract, according to the Metro.
Cole’s Chelsea contract expires in the summer and there seems to be no sign of any negotiations for a new deal to go ahead. He waved an emotional goodbye to Stamford Bridge last week in the most telling way possible that his time at the club was over.
Liverpool are in dire need of cover at full-back and Brendan Rodgers has clearly seen the potential in Cole, despite being well beyond his best years. For one year, he could provide great cover, especially considering the Reds are guaranteed to be in the Champions League group stages next season.
Cole is seen a temporary solution to Liverpool’s left-back problems, but Real Madrid and Monaco have also approached the ex-Arsenal man to discuss a deal.
The Reds only have Jon Flanagan, Andre Wisdom, Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique who they can really call upon. Johnson is likely to go and Wisdom and Flanagan are both young so could be cover next season.
The deal could be resolved quickly over the summer as it seems that Cole may not be taken to the World Cup with England.
Rodgers is also pressing forward on other targets with reports last night that Liverpool want to sign Adam Lallana from Southampton. It is thought they want to secure the signing before the World Cup begins.
