What’s the rumour?
Liverpool have set their sights on signing Jorginho from Napoli, according to reports in The Daily Mirror, as Jurgen Klopp reportedly wants him as the replacement for Emre Can.
The Reds are confident that they will be signing the midfielder despite interest from Manchester United and Arsenal. The report also claims that the Italian midfielder is valued at £50 million by the Serie A side.
In case you didn’t know...
Emre Can's contract at Liverpool is coming to an end. The German has not signed a new contract yet and is set to leave the club for free this summer.
Juventus are said to be the ones who are leading the race for the former Bayer Leverkusen man. His former club, Bayern Munich have also been linked with him.
Can, who is with the National team this week, said that he is focused on playing for the biggest European clubs. "I have the self-confidence to say that my qualities are sufficient to play in a very big club next season," said the midfielder, as per the aforementioned report.
The heart of the matter
Meanwhile, Manchester United were said to leading the race for Jorginho. The midfielder was believed to be seen as the ideal long-term replacement for Micahel Carrick, who is set to retire at the end of the season.
Liverpool were handed a boost last week when the Napoli midfielder's agent came out and said that there was absolutely no contact with Manchester United. Jurgen Klopp has now urged the Liverpool board to get the transfer sealed as per the same report.
The report also claims that Liverpool have alternatives lined up if a move for Jorginho fails. They say that Nice's Jean-Michael Seri and Leicester City's Wilfred Ndidi are on top of their list.
Rumour rating/probability: 8/10
