Liverpool are leading the chase for Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez after already submitting bids, according to the Express.
The Reds are thought to be ahead of Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and a host of other clubs vying for Sanchez’s signature as Barcelona set themselves for a summer of change with their impending transfer ban next year.
The forward, who joined Barcelona in 2011, scored 21 goals in 54 appearances last season and can play in a variety of positions in attack, ranging from out wide to straight through the middle. While Lionel Messi was injured last season, Alexis took the mantle of goal-scorer in the side, eventually going on to score 19 goals in La Liga.
Despite his good form, Sanchez was often omitted from the Barcelona starting line-up under previous manager Gerardo Martino but Luis Enrique insists that the 25-year-old remains part of his plans for next season.
Last week Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu said: “He’s not for sale. He has a contract with us and is an important part of the squad.
“Sanchez has had a great season and, of course, will be a part of Barcelona next season as well.”
Some reports in Spain claim that all Barcelona are hoping for is Sanchez to play well in the World Cup and drive his price up but due to Liverpool wanting to act quickly this summer, there may be developments over the next few days, prior to the World Cup starting.
