Former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson has said that he has been told that a deal to ring Alexis Sanchez to Liverpool had been completed.
Liverpool have been chasing Alexis Sanchez for some time now with the Chilean winger possibly being allowed to leave Barcelona in the summer.
Sanchez has enjoyed a good start to the World Cup helping Chile qualify from Group B in the World Cup alongside the Netherlands, defeating reigning champions Spain 2-0 along the way.
Thompson was speaking on NewsTalk FM about the Luis Suarez incident when he mentioned Sanchez.
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has become the centre of controversy yet again following an incident during the match between Italy and Uruguay in the World Cup.
Uruguay won the match 1-0 thanks to a header from Diego Godin but the match will be remembered because of what Suarez did with the scores at 0-0. Footage shows that Suarez appears to bite Italy defender Georgio Chiellini.
“What will happen to Luis Suarez, will he go? Is he angling for a move? Even just yesterday I heard things from people, newspaper guys who are very close to the ground at Liverpool, saying that the Sanchez deal was actually done” said Thompson.
Sanchez wasn’t originally seen as a replacement for Suarez but if FIFA decide to punish Suarez globally for a lengthy period of time he may end up being one.
