The Reds are preparing to make a move for Ryan Bertrand as their first choice target, Alberto Moreno, dismissed claims a deal was done with Liverpool.
Brendan Rodgers has been working his magic this transfer window and has been chasing Sevilla’s left-back as he looks to solve a problematic area. Jose Enrique was missing for the majority of the season and Aly Cissokho did not cover himself in glory during his loan spell.
Liverpool have been chasing Moreno for a number of weeks and Sevilla confirmed there was interest from the Merseyside outfit for Moreno’s services. Brendan Rodgers reportedly offered £16 million plus Suso for Moreno, but Sevilla rejected the offer and held out for a figure in the region of £18 million. However, talks have now stalled after Sevilla asked for a large chunk of the fee up-front, something Liverpool will not accept.
According to the Mirror, Rodgers has now turned his attention to Chelsea’s full-back Ryan Bertrand. Bertrand, who was on loan last season at Villa, will be available for the Reds in the region of £7 million and is a much cheaper option than Moreno.
Bertrand is a peripheral figure at Chelsea and is now behind Cesar Azpillicueta, who has played in that position for the majority of the campaign.Bertrand won 25/42 tackles last season for Aston Villa – a 60% success rate.
