Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has insisted that the Merseysiders are not getting ahead of themselves despite sitting two points clear at the top of the Premier League table, report the club’s official website.

Brendan Rodgers’ side were merely considered to be an outside bet for a top four finish at the start of the season but have emerged as serious title contenders.

The Reds take on Manchester City on Sunday in what has been billed as a potential championship decider but the Uruguayan forward is eager to take the run in one game at a time.

“We’re not getting carried away with the talk of a possible trophy. It’s obviously nice for the fans to believe and be excited.

“But it’s our responsibility as players to concentrate on the next team we face, do our best on the pitch and we’ll see what happens in May,” he declared.

With three sides still in the race and Manuel Pellegrini’s men boasting the luxury of two games in hand over their rivals Suarez is right not to over think the remaining five games of the season.

Suarez has enjoyed a fantastic season individually and had a particularly memorable month throughout March with six goals in five appearances. However, there was one moment that stood out above all else for the 27-year-old.

“I’ll go for the hat-trick at Cardiff and keeping the match ball as my biggest achievement of the month.

“That was my sixth hat-trick since joining Liverpool. The goal where Daniel Sturridge back-heeled the ball for the assist was probably my favourite goal of the lot.

“You always want to improve as you progress through the different seasons. If you don’t want to constantly improve, then you might as well give up.

“I’ve had some good seasons in the past, with some very good strike partners, but this season has felt very good and I’m really enjoying my football,” he insisted.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo (199) has had more shots than Luis Suarez (159) in Europe’s top five leagues this season.
