Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he has no plan of bringing club legend and former captain Steven Gerrard back to Anfield in a rumoured loan move from LA Galaxy. Klopp had admitted earlier that he won’t be forced into signing any player in the January transfer window even though the club is suffering from injury problems.
Gerrard put an end to his 17 year stint with Liverpool at the end of last season after securing a move to the MLS.
Steven Gerrard welcome to train with the first team : Klopp
The former Liverpool skipper had trained with the first team during the MLS off-season and it had sparked rumours of a possible temporary return to Anfield. However, Klopp, who had previously suggested that Gerrard would be welcomed back with open arms after his playing career is over, told Sky Sports News: "I'm a very optimistic guy, but Stevie has another year's contract in Los Angeles. No [he will definitely not be coming back on loan], but if we can help him with whatever, we will do it, of course.”
The loss of Gerrard has been termed as irreplaceable by critics and fans alike, and Klopp admitted that it is a challenge, "How could the players immediately fill this gap, how could they do it? They start and they all try, but these are young lads. It's not an excuse, it's only to describe the situation. That's all the things that we're working on.”
Liverpool not rushing anything in January
Jurgen Klopp has also played down speculation regarding his plans to splash out money and build his team with the players he want in January. Liverpool are facing a few injury problems at the moment, but the German believes there is no crisis as such so far. He said: "We have problems with injuries, unbelievable. [But] because everyone is asking me for transfers, it's not a reason to do them.”
"We are prepared for all situations, we know the whole market, we know the prices, all of these things. If we have more injuries - and we have enough injuries - we have to think about it. If not, we have to work with the players we have,” he added.
Liverpool have had a roller-coaster ride under Klopp this season and find themselves 9th in the table with 24 points from 17 games.
