Liverpool have not given up hope of persuading former Chelsea left back Ashley Cole to join Anfield.
The former England international is a free agent following the expiration of his contract with the Blues and Liverpool have continuously expressed an interest in signing Cole.
However it emerged recently that Italian side AS Roma have become the favourites to sign Cole, with the Serie A side hoping to complete a deal as soon as possible.
The Mail report that Liverpool will make one last effort to convince Cole to change his mind but it seems as if it will take a very good offer to persuade Cole.
Left back is a problem area for Liverpool with Jose Enrique missing the vast majority of the season through injury. Young full back Jon Flanagan impressed but he is predominantly a right back and Rodgers will look to bring in a specialist left back for next season.
Cole’s former team-mate Ryan Bertrand has been mentioned as a possible target along with Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno but like Cole these rumours have come to nothing concrete so far.
Ashley Cole didn’t lose a single league game in 2014.
